♦ KRILE BALDESION ♦
Final Fantasy XIV
A heartful scholar unraveling mysteries, in pursuit of the meaning of home.
☘ ABOUT ☘
FAMILY:Galuf Baldesion
RESIDENCE:Old Sharlayan
OCCUPATION:Head of the Students of Baldesion, Scion of the Seventh Dawn
HEIGHT:2'10"
EYES:Sky blue
VOICE:Gemma Lawrence (as Krile Baldesion)
Though small and having to make exaggerated moments to keep up with taller races, Krile's demeanor is more polite and reserved. She will often gesticulate when speaking, and occasionally points at herself if there's a task in need of assistance. There's still a sense of whimsy about her, though, found primarily in her attire, when she teases others, or expresses herself with pictomancy. She'll usually look as if nothing's bothering her on the surface, the only hints being the occasional snippy quip until she reaches a boiling point—much to the chagrin of herself and her friends.
Her voice is clear and defined, a distinct British accent to it. While not quite authoritative, she says things with confidence and honesty based in her knowledge. Most of the time, anyway.
She smells like Icelandic pines. If exhausting her aether supply though, things start smelling vaguely like paint thinner.

☘ PERSONALITY ☘
ALIGNMENT:Neutral Good
LIKES:Sorting, embroidery, unraveling the arcane
DISLIKES:Inaction, riots, staple scholarly food
Kindly, earnest, blunt, cheeky, and if she needs you for something, she will come and find you.
Perhaps the sight of a giant paintbrush and a cat hood doesn't immediately scream "graduated and honored scholar," but Krile fits the bill in every meaning of the description. Though she did not apply for an Archon Mark, her wits and inquires are sharply edged, and analysis incredibly in-depth—no doubt from how she was raised on an island of scholars researching the mysteries of the world. This creates a natural curiosity she has for the world, and any phenomena she observes, she'll try to decipher it the best she can. The Students of Baldesion are meant to decipher the mysteries of the star, after all, to better their knowledge for the use of good. What head of the Students would she be if she weren't an inquiring mind herself? Though her methods range from both personal observation to long-term investments, she will do anything in her power to glean as much as she can by her own eyes.
This quick thinking extends to her sharp wits, as well. She did not entirely bury herself in books, and had no choice but to navigate the streets her own way. A remnant of her guarded personality from adolescence, Krile is not above throwing the occasional snark and tease for her own amusement. When it especially comes to mortifying her own connections, friend or acquaintance, she can and will use their embarrassing moments for the purpose of either lighthearted pleasantries, or if it must be done, leverage. She is not so heartless as to reveal anything that truly smears their character, but it paints a fuller picture of a person, wouldn't you agree? This teasing of her's is a sly way to serve that very purpose, gleaning intentions her Echo cannot plainly hear. Whether it is done with facts she knows, or wild guesses thrown in the dark, it was necessary to be as crafty as she is with how stringent and obtuse certain parts of Sharlayan was. Though, maybe, that says more of Sharlyan society than of how Krile herself is.
Yet another consequence of that is her more cautious tendencies. For as bold as she can be in bark, her bite is somewhat more hesitant. She knows what it is she can and cannot do, and when she sees something is out of her range, she looks for things that are in her range instead. There are sometimes opportunities where risks are needed, this she understands and allows herself to take them—but she cannot stop her bleeding heart from worrying so. It's hard not to empathize with the struggles of others, let alone to herself. Though well-aware a whole caravan of people are willing to back her up, she's not quite used to the help, and keeps things to herself out of habit to not worry them. It stops them from telling her lies that she's not inadequate, when she is. That's why she has to work on herself alone... until she remembers that she doesn't. Old habits die hard, is all.
Whether she keeps secrets to herself or not, Krile makes herself to be as reliable as she can be in her resolve. Using her frustrations as fuel for motivation, she will overcome the obstacles standing in her path in an attempt to pave a better one. It's how she decided on that once-darker path as a child, how she was dedicated to understand herself, how climbed herself through the Studium, how she learned an entire obscurer art of magic with no one noticing. And by the gods, she'll do it if it protects the people, both the ones she loves, and the strangers who cannot defend themselves. She will not give up on her hunt to find any solution with as little trades as possible, and in turn, she'll be able to learn of what it means for something to mean home on this star.

☘ ABILITIES & SKILLS ☘
THE ECHO:A remnant from an age long gone, the Echo is the ability to resonate with a person or Krile's own surroundings, tapping into memory, and experiencing the past for herself. Like a contained flashback in her head, Krile directly feels and comprehends everything that happens per the one the Echo has connected with. Its onset is signified by a sudden, debilitating headache. Time in the physical world does not pass at all, but to its user, the vision itself can feel like ages depending on what's being shown. Krile has no control over when this aspect of the power can activate, but OOC-ly, this is a power to be used only with permission and coordination.
The other effect of her Echo is how it passively manifests. Krile has the ability to hear the whispers of a soul. It is not direct mind-reading, per say, but she can sense a form of intent and the emotion(s) associated with it. She cannot control this power, and it is active at all times, much to her chagrin. Though exceedingly sensitive to it, she has learned to tune out and tolerate it in a crowded setting, and not rely on it in interactions. She'll try to not mention or think of it by default, for the purposes of privacy. It doesn't stop it from causing adverse reactions if she senses intense, hostile intent from someone or someone(s), however. This power does not discriminate between dead or alive, but it does not pick up on soulless beings of any kind. At the very least, it allows universal translation of some kind and a keener eye for the unnatural.
After much personal training, Krile can also use these whispers to track down traces of a person's soul. The aether of each soul is unique, so she knows where exactly to find someone at all times like a bloodhound. If their soul is far more distant from where she is, she can channel her power into a potent focus to expand her sense into even the Lifestream itself.
BLESSING OF LIGHT: A ward that protects Krile's aether from corruption, preventing her from being tempered. As the Warrior of Light would oh-so-thankfully test, there's a limit to how much it can protect, and doubtless it is weaker for one of her nature.
The blessing also serves as a connection to Hydaelyn, and Krile is able to offer her body as a vessel to channel her will under the right circumstances.
MAGICKS:As a person, Krile holds a great aetheric capacity for casting magicks, and has dedicated most of her talent into learning the healing arts. While not experienced enough to wield it under the stress of combat, her knowledge is leaps and bounds to administer treatments like a chirurgeon. With aether alone, however, there is only so much she can do. But damned if she won't, still. She will try her hardest to mend the issue—or keep things at bay—until it can be resolved. She has the skill to keep alive even a soulless body if necessary, but the root of that issue better be solved as fast as it can, as she can hold the line for only so long.
More recently, Krile has taken up the art of pictomancy—an art that relies on the riches of the imagination to draw aether from themself, and shape a form to the formless. Because of her sharpened academic creativity, the potency of Krile's spells are incredibly powerful and pack a punch, even if she isn't quite as experienced in battle like her other friends. But it is more of an offensive option than defensive, that's for sure.

☘ PERMISSIONS ☘
PHYSICAL AFFECTION:She would prefer to be asked beforehand if it's not someone she's close to, but go ahead. She'll awkwardly reciprocate if you're a friend, and resist if you're not. Closer friends, though, she's completely comfortable with.
PHYSICAL VIOLENCE:Sure. She can hold her own, and can probably survive major injuries. Killing is on the menu, but let's discuss that beforehand.
RELATIONSHIPS:A character would have to grow closer to her first to attract any sort of feeling. She is also an adult, not a child, and would preferred to be treated that way.
PSYCHIC/PSIONIC INFORMATION:You can mind read her, but you'll also likely hear what she's hearing with the Echo. Though not psychic in nature, because her special Echo ability is turbo soul empathy, she will passively get a feel of characters in her proximity unless they can block it. Please let me know beforehand if you want to opt-out on that!
MEDICAL INFORMATION:She has a standard Lalafell build, and her aetheric capacity is great. If there is technology to peer deeper, her Echo can clearly be detected among her soul's capabilities.
IC OFFENSIVE SUBJECTS AND TRIGGERS:She's wary around capsules in lab settings, but won't make a fuss out of it unless she suddenly becomes the subject of interest. Otherwise, while she's learned to handle being in a crowd or general feelings of negativity, a mass of/an incredibly strong source of hostility will stun and overwhelm her until the presence is gone. Think of it like misophonia.
BACKTAGGING:Sure.
THREADHOPPING:Sure.
FOURTH-WALL:More of a conditional thing. It might be funny to point out she's a walking reference to various FF titles, but she wouldn't be too affected by the idea she's fiction elsewhere, considering how history operates.
CROSS-CANON:Absolutely yes.
AU:Doable, but it'll need a good amount of discussion involved.
PROSE OR BRACKETS:I'm more used to typing in prose, so I default to that as a result. I'm open to matching brackets on request or reply, though!
OOC OFFENSIVE TOPICS:Zero smut or kinks for me, but that's about it. Krile herself has hints of survivor's guilt, bullying, and being the subject of unethical experiments.

☘ HISTORY ☘
Krile Baldesion was found and raised in an orphanage sponsored by Sharlyan scholar Galuf Baldesion in her young years, before the Echo awakened in her at age 12. She found herself suddenly sensitive to the whispers of others' souls, quickly overwhelming her. Negative intentions harmed her the most, and when people took notice, they would jab and jeer at her, calling her an aberration, and further adding to her misery. She would develop a caustic and aloof personality because of this, pushing people away before they could hurt her. Galuf, however, saw her suffering and eased her worries, gifting her a cat hood and telling her that her power would one day be a powerful blessing. She would move to the Isle of Val, and Galuf would dedicate the Students of Baldesion into understanding her powers better.
Growing up to of age, Krile would train her limitations better, and attended the Studium, concentrating into the Faculty of the Arcane to further advance her understanding of magic and her innate abilities. She would excel in the healing arts, and served as an upperclassman to Alphinaud Leveilleur and Alisaie Leveilleur, occasionally tutoring them. She would also serve as a younger peer to G'raha Tia, who grew up alongside her after being similarly entrusted to the Students of Baldesion at a young age. Krile would not see Galuf often during these times, seeing him only during meals or before retiring for the night. He remained her adoptive grandfather, nonetheless, the two continuing to share kinship with each other. After graduating from the Studium, Krile would join the Students of Baldesion, and closely befriended Minfilia Warde in researching the arcane.
She would prove a valuable asset and friend for the oncoming years, but experienced struggles of her own. In the fight for Ala Mhigo's liberation, she was captured and placed as the subject of interest for her Echo, induced into a state of deep torpor with medicines. After rescue and victory over the Garlean Empire, she investigated Eureka with what little remained of the Students of Baldesion, discovering it to be the Isle of Val transformed, and the truth behind its disappearance. When the Archons began collapsing with their souls called, she was the one to treat their slumbering bodies, keeping them alive with Master Matoya's help for as long as she could. When it came to the Telophoroi and the Final Days, she would base the Scions in the Baldesion Annex, and handled administrative affairs. She would also investigate the Twelve in an official commission, though was once again unable to fight in it herself. Krile could not help but feel left out, her inadequacy to adventure with her friends painful—and so, she studied and taught herself the art of pictomancy in hopes of joining their next adventure.
This discovery of her background left her torn, however. If she were to stay with the Source, she felt like it would abandon everything her parents left her in the Ninth. The same would go for if she stayed with the Ninth, where it would be leaving everything in the Source behind. She would visit the city of Treno in the Ninth, discovering its survivors and living members of her extended family. Speaking with them then freed much of her doubts on where she belonged, and Krile has thus resolved to follow her heart and protect her home, no matter where it may be on the star.

The peace would not last, however; one day, the Isle of Val and its people on hand suddenly vanished as Krile was on its land, and only she was spared through Hydaelyn's intervention. She would wash ashore onto Sharlayan's mainland, and went into a coma. She would eventually awaken to find that G'raha sealed himself away to slumber in the Crystal Tower, and Minfilia missing after the infamous Bloody Banquet. Restless, she was contacted by the Scions to assist in finding their missing numbers, with varying levels of success. After the Dragonsong War ended for good, the Warring Triad vanquished, and the incident at Baelsar's Wall, Krile officially joined the Scions of the Seventh Dawn. She would prove a valuable asset and friend for the oncoming years, but experienced struggles of her own. This section has Dawntrail and post-DT spoilers, up to patch 7.4.
As fate would have it, she would discover an old letter addressed to Galuf to investigate the Golden City in Tural. Krile would join the Rite of Succession under Vow Wuk Lamat's name in order to find answers to the Golden City, and why her grandfather was present. Given the truth after the rite was over, Krile discovered her origins from the Ninth—her parents, Alayla and Robor, entrusted her to Galuf when the gate to the Golden City opened those many years ago in defiance of Preservation. When Alexandria invaded Tural, she was compelled to fight against their corrupt leadership, and found a sense of closure in Living Memory. By speaking with the Endless made of her parents, she discovered her distant heritage from the South Sea Isles, and the that name they gave her was Maya. She has since then adopted it as her second name into Krile Maya Baldesion. This discovery of her background left her torn, however. If she were to stay with the Source, she felt like it would abandon everything her parents left her in the Ninth. The same would go for if she stayed with the Ninth, where it would be leaving everything in the Source behind. ☘ MISCELLANEOUS ☘
THE TIME BUBBLE SITUATION:Usually, I measure FFXIV ages by their age as first introduced into the game, and then counting upwards. This would mean Krile is 22 at her introduction post-HW, before the years go by. I personally headcanon it's been 9 years between ARR and DT, but I'm flexible to say shorter or longer.
The main canon point I'm working with is post-patch 7.4, but if requested or I think it fancy, I can pull from others.
OTHER WOLS:I'll usually play Krile as if Meteor is the default WoL, but if you have ideas for yours', it doesn't hurt to shoot me a message!
